If Iraq goes to hell, odds are the Shia and the Kurds will hold sway over their majority areas, where most of the oil is located. The Sunni Al Qaeda types could try to cause trouble but most of the valuable assets would be pretty far out of their reach.

The Shia and the Kurds have a powerful interest in maintaining the oil flow. To focus on the blunt bottom line, that interest and their power work in our favor.
