After the fight, Holyfield said he didn't want to end the bout quick in the first round. "I wanted to box," Holyfield said. "The most important thing is to trust my knowledge. I went 12 rounds. Some people didn't think I could go 12 rounds."

I wonder who those people were? Any fan of Holyfield's would have been thrilled with a first round knock out. Everyone knows he can go through 12 rounds of boxing without letting his hands go (see excerpt from MaxBoxing coverage of the fight)

Not much happened in the ring after the eye-opening first round as one fighter (Holyfield) wasn’t able to let his hands go and the other fighter (Oquendo) seemed almost afraid to. Oquendo, 11 years Holyfield’s junior at 33 years of age, appeared downright skittish after getting dropped was reluctant to trade with the former champ, who plodded through most of the rounds waiting for his opponent to punch.
