Nope. It's a call to populism which is a left turn. People just forget how unpopular Bush Sr. was. He was outta touch, outta ideas and just plain outta office.

Just as Dubya's presidency is plagued by the huge, gaping holes in his character, Poppy's problems are plagued by his inability to understand real life. It was, after all, Babs Bush who opened her big mouth and blithely told the world how lucky Katrina refugees were.

The Bushes haven't changed, some Americans have simply forgotten.

Stem cell research, SS, Medicare re-reform these aren't Republicans issues, these are left of center issues and they're widely supported by the majority of Americans. Just because old codgers from the Bush I regime are popping up to whack BabyBush in the head for his disaster in Iraq, doesn't mean the rest of the country is content to go backwards in time.
