You are right - however, what I was thinking was in that the Sunni are the majority Islam population and the Kurds have a history of religious pluralism, so you only have a healthy tension with the Shia. Also, Iran would never let the Shia overrun the Sunnis. The geographic partitions, as you pointed out are difficult to say the least - there are a number of partitions combined with co-mingling of the religions that could be worked out. We would have to be smart enough to make each party have something of value out of it....like oil. Creating economic entities based on religions might be an approach.
