Just as with cars, the poor buy USED computers. Typically these come pre-loaded with the former owners software. Quite a deal, typically. Check it out.

If they barely have enough money to pay for food and rent, where are they going to come up with even $350. Those are the computers picked up by 'poor' college students. I gave my old computer to someone who worked for me on jobs. He had two small kids.....it was perfect for them. After they 'broke' it, it sat unfixed for at least a year before I left LA. They didn't have the money to fix it.
