The only way to stop that cold is to put enough troops and police in there to sit on the population.

The McCain approach...unfortunately it'll take a couple of generations to get these folks to forget their differences. Look at ireland.

The only other solution is to give each side their own corner and let them root out the the other side from their corner. As it stands, we are keeping things from breaking out in a big way, at the cost of 100 or so people a day. This can go on for generations, the numbers killed aren't large enough to do much of anything but encourage revenge. So give them their countries, enforce the borders, and let them get it out of their system. We can only slow the process, not stop it. And the cost is that we are targets and there is no way to rebuild infrastructure so they can recover.

This is the Murtha solution. Get out of the way, stay in the region to make sure that the fight is not influenced by outsiders to the extent possible, and let them fight it out until they are tired.
