My younger lab hunts mice in my wood piles and branches piles. Usually as he's sniffing in one place they run out behind him. Although if he spots them they are done fer. it's amazing how fast he is, I swear faster then a cat getting one.

She needs a JR to hunt with. The JR probably doesn't need the help, but the work well in teams, so would probably adapt to flush them to your mastiff. Unless you prefer to leave the wildlife alone.
