It's the rightwing which is the hypocrite on gay rights. The old axiom "he who smelt it dealt it" definitely applies. If you think Rev. Haggard is an isolated case, you're ignorant. It's the same in the Catholic church, same sex schools, the Boy Scouts, church choirs, even in the military. These all-male or supposedly chaste havens have always been a magnet for closet cases, and the evidence is overwhelming. I am tolerant of gays, but I don't want them hitting on me, or hitting on kids. If someone plainly admits they are gay, then they re not a threat because you see them coming and that's honest and open. But if they pretend to be righteous and trustworthy to be alone with kids, then they may be a danger. I would guess that about 25% of the rightwingers who rant and rave against gays are secretly gay themselves. Just like many racists secretly lust for black lovers. Remember Stromg Thurmond and his secret black mistress?
