The bigger story concerning the Kerry botched joke was the way the media ran with the story and how long they were able to build the story up into something it wasn't. After they did that they milked it for all it was worth. Stories about junior which are along the same lines as this one don't even rate a mention in the media.

John Kerry didn't intend to put down the troops. It's just that when the literal meaning of his words did so, he was idiotic enough to blame others for accurately describing the true and obvious meaning and implications of his words. He was idiotic enough not to apologize for a gaffe of his own creation, pretty much forever. He's a very dim bulb, this Kerry.
