Being a police officer, my father taught my brother and me to box when we were probably only 4 or 5 years old. Boxing isn't school yard "fighting" but it sure was a big help when those situations came up and I never backed away from one. Later, when I was about 12, I boxed on a team at the Denver YMCA. I won most of my matches and believed I was tough.

Six years later, I joined the Marine Corps. I found out real fast what "tough" looked like... and it wasn't me!
