Sorry, Barry --- just standard debate scoring. When a line of argument is ABANDONED by one side it is scored that they have lost the point. (Nothing personal... 'mental midget' or 'liberal' or otherwise. LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!! But, feel free to continue dodging the issues and name-calling if you want to you big, fat liberal! ... Sorry, couldn't resist! :-) Of course, if you would care to return to your abandoned arguments, and try to support them again... that would be even better. "Counting on Iran? Are you nuts?!" Nope. Just counting on Iran to be Iran.... (Why? WHO do you expect them to be?) "Iran would use the same tactics in Iraq that Iran is using right now, only stepped up, which is terrorism." Exactly. And, so would the Sunni/al Qaeda side. Resulting in: a civil war and a war *between* terrorist sponsors... and an INTER-religious war. *Always* the bloodiest kind. "You are counting on Iran getting bogged down in Iraq??? That borders on lunacy." Why would you say something as stupid as that? (Remember: Saddam's Iraq alone was nearly a match militarily for the larger Iran.) The two SIDES of the civil war are fairly WELL MATCHED in military potential, and in resources to sustain the struggle. The Iraqi Sunni community (although outnumbered by Iraqi Shiites) still comprised the BULK of Iraq's entire military --- so training and professionalism can be counted amongst their assets. They are also supported in their war against Shiite and Iranian interests by foreign Sunni jihadists (such as the al Qaeda... currently busy blowing up as many Shia as it possibly can), and by VAST levels of financing (and 'unofficial' levels of support) provided by NEIGHBORING SUNNI NATIONS such as Saudi Arabia , Kuwait and other Gulf Monarchies, Jordan, etc. (So says the US MILITARY, which has issued intelligence briefings saying that the 'Sunni insurgency is receiving nearly UNLIMITED FINANCING and RESUPPLY from neighboring Sunni lands'). If the fight over Iraq WIDENS (as I expect, once Uncle Sucker wises up and gets out of the middle of the crossfire), then it's quite logical to expect that the *unofficial* support being provided to the Sunni Iraqi side will morph into ever-more OFFICIAL levels of military support from Sunni countries --- even those far afield such as Egypt, Pakistan, Algeria, etc., etc., etc. Any *formal* entry of the Persians into the battle would see the formal entry of many Arab nations into the battle (unless their PREFERRED strategy of suckering Uncle Sam into doing their fighting FOR THEM works.... :-( And, do not forget that the population bases and the economic and military potentials of the Sunni lands OUTWEIGH that of the Shiites... who are minorities (and despised ones, at that) throughout most of Islam. =========================================================== Finally... consider this: If your *goal* was to WEAKEN the Persian's military strength, which of the two following options would be MORE LIKELY to do so? 1) Have the Persians bogged down in a bloody internecine and inter-religious struggle and civil war over the corpse of Iraq --- fighting against the combined Sunni forces of most of Islam, and spending all of their oil revenues while their growing young population becomes more and more restless, and more and more unhappy with the Theocrats who got them into that mess. 2) Having the Persians sit back and grin like Cheshire Cats while UNCLE SUCKER fights their Sunni Arab enemies *for them*?
