I can't see the price of zinc collapsing when the LME zinc inventories are on pace to hit zero in coming months: kitconet.com

Basic supply/demand economics says the price can't collapse when demand exceeds supply, and with the dearth of sizable new zinc projects in the pipeline compared to mining reserves being depleted, it looks like there will be a crisis level zinc shortage for years to come. I tend to agree with the analyst who sees zinc going to $5-6/pound (http://www.siliconinvestor.com/readmsg.aspx?msgid=23008852 ) more than I see zinc ever returning to below $1, especially as the dollar declines.

I think you can probably exclude 2007 from that big zinc question.

The 28 member country International Lead and Zinc Study Group
(www.ilzsg.org) claims :
"The extent of the shortage in 2006 is estimated at 354,000 tonnes, narrowing to 154,000 tonnes in 2007"

These folks are not "Buy zinc!" newsletter writers/pumpers.

The main role of the ILZSG is to ensure transparency in the markets for lead and zinc worldwide. This is achieved by providing a continuous flow of information to the market place on supply and demand developments in lead and zinc through the monthly publication of high quality statistics, and in depth economic studies.

Yes, they might be wrong.
Yes, they might have a hidden agenda.
Yes, the big money boyz might be setting them up.
....but you have to place your bets someplace, so I'm going with them & zinc.

In case you are interested, there are also two other groups they mention:
International Nickel Study Group
insg.org
International Copper Study Group
icsg.org

CB.
