i think you have to be pretty close to a repeater to get it in the garage. if it cut off when you pulled in, and before you shut the garage door, that's a pretty good indication you were receiving a line of sight sat signal.

i never get any spam or calls from XM. i just bought the unit and had it installed and subscribed to their service.

i now get Sirius at home for free--it comes with my Dish TV service. you get all the music for free but they don't give you any of the crap "content" like Howard Stern.

i find the music stations to be pretty comparable between the two.
