who is 'us'? do the good lives include live-in nannies for the masses? no, of course not. so, how good can it be?

I am talking about the 300mm plus of us in the USA. Compare on any measure to the lives of those in the ME, the 900mm peasants in China, the people in India, the people in Africa, the people in South America.

How many of those people would like to switch places with live-in nannies?

besides, what does any of that have to do with saudi arabia, how it will fall, and how oil cost will rise

Saudia Arabia is an anachronism. We are all guilty of using Saudia Arabia for our own advantage. Inevitably (10, 25, 50 100)years from now? Who knows?) Saudia Arabia will eventually gets it act together.

Oil right now is very important to civilization, but it will not last forever. Civilization is not going to end when we run out of oil (25, 50, 100 years from now?).

It may not be all that apparent to you, but civilization is making progress. People are living longer and getting better educated. People are getting better at living harmoniously with people that are outside of our immediate tribe.

Life is generally much better for most now than 50 or 100 years ago.

It is better to live now than it was 100.

as the moronic iraq wager winds stupidly down, the topic under discussion?

We make mistakes. Progress is not linear. Sometimes we take a step forward, fall back several steps and climb back up again.

The recent election in the US tells us that most people feel that George W. Bush was a big mistake and that we want to go in another direction. We have term limits. We have other checks and balances. We have margin for error.

George W. Bush got us into a big mess, but help is on the way.

George H W Bush and his velvet hammer (James Baker) will bail Junior out. W's war is over. 41 is going to try to clean up the mess. For all intent and purposes 43's reign is over.

I just hope they don't throw out the baby along with the bath water.

Henry Paulson is okay in my book.
