Oswald and Ruby were both killed and silenced, as were a half dozen others who "knew too much". It's a classic CIA coup d'etat as they were practiced in the bad old days of the 50's and early 60's. Also, J. Edgar Hoover was probably the one man in the country who could have orchestrated law enforcement the way it was done.

I'd say the lone nut theory is about as likely as lightning striking three times in the same place.
