been watching the questioning and answers on C-SPAN, and to be frank, there is no good or even acceptable solution to Iraq that remotely resembles 'winning' and has a facade of 'peace with honor'. The mess is an out and out defeat leading to a rout, a strategic mistake of the first order based on wrong premise and executed by hallucinating morons and acquiesced by spendthrift and clueless opposition party.

the winning play, if one can call it that, is to learn the lesson, admit defeat, pull out, hope for the best, and beg the international community for forgiveness and urge a concerted effort to go back in and clean up the mess that will have festered in scale, degree, and ferocity.

but, of course, such a course of action takes astute leadership, and learned diplomacy.

oops, i think we are in trouble.
