That is consistent with what we saw here on Si during Katrina. The liberals were yelling loud about aid, yet when I asked them what they were contributing, they said our taxes are paying for it...and did not contribute. The same thing with the Tsunami.

When it comes to helping the needy, Brooks writes: "For too long, liberals have been claiming they are the most virtuous members of American society. Although they usually give less to charity, they have nevertheless lambasted conservatives for their callousness in the face of social injustice."

I wouldn't accept that as a fact unless I looked at his methodology, and where he got his information from. The only surveys I've seen on this are based on IRS statistics on tax write offs for charitable giving, which is far from a complete picture.

Interesting. Did he note if he considered contributions to churches in the charitable category? And if the data is broken out that way, what percentage goes to their main church?

Giving to Rev, Haggard is ¨charity¨? It´s actually called being hoodwinked and fleeced out of your money to give to a charlatan. Multiple Haggard times 1000 and you get the idea of what´s been going down in rightwing evangalicval America. Little of this money ends up helping the needy too. Mostly a scam.
