The "market" in personal behavior works parallel to the market in economics. Information is assimilated and acted upon -- spontaneously -- absent external coercive influence.

Could we return to a more MYOFB society some of what might happen include lessons, some very old:

Practitioners of the old virtues would rediscover, over time, that their habits result in a better life for their progeny.

Asshole bandits might discover that the costs of their behavior generally exceed the benefits.


Some of that is happening and has been for some time. That's why the long swing toward more conservatism. It's a long process and "Practioners of the old virtues" face an uphill battle with a greater society, media, educational system often unfriendly to their goal.
