You're recommending that the Democrats lead by.....doing nothing, because that will allow them better positioning to point out Republican failures? That's pretty pathetic.

Get realistic. The Iraq War is a foreign policy decision and a decision for the Commander in Chief. A Constitutional prerogative of the Executive. The only "lead" Congress can exercise is to cut off funding. A last resort. Short of that Congress can hold hearings and generally nag the Executive about screwing up.

As the Iraq War is now a lose-lose proposition; every option has serious downsides. Congress [as a body] could make "recommendations", but Bush is going to do what Bush wants to do. Making a "recommendation" is going to do nothing but give the Administration something to criticize rather than honestly address Dubya's own crappy decisions.

Individual members [both sides of the aisle] will make recommendations but half of them are eying their own possible nomination for 2008.

That is not what I typed. The White House should be given another opportunity to develop a winning strategy. After the White House fails to take action, it should get slammed. You should slam them too. After dealing out a well-deserved political beating, the Democrat-led Congress should work with the White House to come up with the solution. Will it be the magic solution? Let's hope so.

I suppose you want an independent Iraq. One that will act as a counter to Iran, Syria, and Hamas. One that is not anti-Israel. One that will not seek to destabilize Saudi Arabia. If so, we are in the same ball park.

Stay the course will not get us there. After years of failure in Iraq with no end in sight, I see nothing wrong with a month of political pounding for this White House. After that, its time for a solution.
