Don...the Iraqi people ARE stepping up. The Shiites are killing the Sunnis to try and establish their Power, because they are sure they are right. The Sunnis are killing the Shiites to try and establish their Power, because they are sure they are right. The Kurds will kill either of the other two, or the Turks or Iranians if they try and enter "their" area. ALL three are willing to put their "lives" on the line to defend what they believe in. If that's not standing up then I don't know what is. You see...when we went in there, we just told them what they were supposed to believe in and expected them to just go along with it. IF we had gone in with sufficient force and a definite plan on how to provide security and political stability it "might" have had a shot. As it is, the people in Iraq that would love to do exactly what we want can't even go outside, let alone "stand up" and make changes.
