Those links were mostly to show that there was speculation around other legal activities that may effect IQ in contrast to the effect of cannabis on IQ. Cigarettes and TV watching seems to me to be a bit speculative. Alcohol on the other hand has been proven to cause damage to every organ in the body when used in excess, specifically brain damage. I'm not a scientist but I don't think it is much of a leap to assume if you have damaged your brain then you have probably diminished your IQ.
