Ouch.

I'd have to agree that I have never seen a more damning first paragraph of a review.

But I think that we should probably remember that it is possible that this reviewer is wrong. Not saying that's necessarily so, but lots of brilliant works have been trashed by at least some critics.

She could be right, too. I do find that Pynchon, though unquestionably brilliant, can be too much in love with his own writing at times.
