A very good friend was a Blackjack master and played so well that the casinos started watching him to see whether he was a card counter (he wasn't). He simply mastered the probability tables for the game. Another thing he did was raise his next bet if he lost a hand and lowered if he won, which is the opposite of what the casinos want you to do. The dealer would say "You shouldn't do that." but he knew what he was doing. It helped moderate his cash flow in the game. He always paid for his trips to Las Vegas that way.

He said Blackjack is the only game of chance where the house doesn't have an overwhelming advantage. A good player can do well because the house lives off the poor players even though it has only a 51/49 advantage.
