I remember my "mean one" very well. Had her for second and third grade. Stereotypical old spinster school teacher, and this was in '51-52. Her reputation was such that I cried when I found out I was gonna get her. Reputations can be deceiving. She became a long-time friend of the family :>) I used to stop off in Bakersfield on my way home from grad school at 'SC to have dinner with her. Old time teacher; taught a year or 2 in Vegas at the age of about 18, when it was a rail town in the desert.. Then a year or two teaching at the movie colony on the Grapevine; knew Mae West, Tom Mix, etc in those days.
