Both sisters-in-law got their wallet stolen as we tried to board the metro. Both of them put their arms over the purse: BIG MISTAKE because you guard the purse and not the zipper. My wife put her arm around the top of the purse and her right hand HOLD the ZIPPER, that's the way to do it. There was a good samaritan who shouted to other passengers to block the path of the gypsies, so one wallet was recovered but the other was long gone.

yeah...my folks got accousted by the gypsies in Italy at the train station...

Everyone gets accosted. Yell, scream and curse -- the language doesn't matter -- and throw a couple of punches if necessary. For me, it's been necessary at least three or four times in Italy, Greece, and Bulgaria.

I understand why they are hated across Europe.
