Business unit boss Pat Gelsinger spoke of a breakdown - and tore the presented paper up, which as appendix hand outs to the Enterprise press Briefing on Intel the Developer forum was attached

The picture this report paints is that giving enough information to calculate the yields was a screw up. Furthermore, saying the yields were "hypothetical" was an after the fact cover story.

hypothetical numbers

as intel is not willing to give them out, any numbers one comes up with will be hypothetical. also any estimate one makes about future profitability, earnings to evaluate any investment is hypothetical. some numbers are (partially) revealed at some point and some are not but that doesn't make them any less necessary or useful.

The Intel mfg cost numbers are idiotic. They show the same packaging and test cost for a quad core composed of two cores on a substrate as for a single core. But in Q3 2005, Intel claimed that gross margin was lower because of some difficulty of implementing their two-chip dual core approach.
