The kazahks wouldn't like to think themselves ruled by Putin, imho, and it wouldn't pay Putin to try ruling them too tightly ... looks to me it's something like the relationship Canada has to the US, there is strong economic and political influence, yet there is a strong level of independence as well ... sounds like the kazakhs have their own Putin, in this Nazarbayev, but he is quite market-literate - en.wikipedia.org

Judging political risk is such a subjective thing, no real way to quantify the factors, to make scientific distinctions ... i like to stick to North America, Downunder, Scandinavia, these are all pretty safe predictable jurisdictions where at least your people are not likely to get shot, but anywhere you can run into trouble - British Columbia under the NDP for example ... imagine trying to start up a mine within daytripping range of Vancouver or San Francisco, under any government ... Doublestar dsr.v is making noises about mining Catface Mountain, which looks down over Tofino, well this will never happen in a million years ... method in their madness though, if they play it right they'll get some paltry fraction of a Windy Craggy type payoff ... it's not mining, it's a court case play

Here's an odd one, fellow likes PNG and Russia but not the Americas south of the 49th parallel - Message 23019677

Takes all kinds -g- ... in neither Canada or the US can you make a country-wide judgment, as mining is a prov/state issue, feds have little to do with it ... in our little corner of Chiapas i could point you to places and say, over there you could not make a mine, it's politically impossible, but over that way you could, provided you did so in a responsible manner, and the jobs would be welcome ... common sense has to come into it ... i would never put much into anything outside my 'safe' countries, keep it down to the level of a drillbit play or less, but i think numbers like epm.to has could spice up that slice ... it's also true that there are many other choices, and nothing really quite compares to Metalline

Speaking of political risk, 43rd anniversary today - en.wikipedia.org
