We can't "coerce" people, although many countries do. It is our law that children go to school for 12 years, but we don't call that coercion. We call that education.

If everyone in the country, put some time into their Community, or Military, or Peace Corps in the US, we would all be better off. The young people would learn some constructive tools to use for life, plus helping their community. President Bush, at the start of his first term, suggested something like this.

I know that if I were hiring young people again, and we had such a system, it would be a priority for me to hire those who had served their country for two years, gained some skills, learned how to be humble, and also learned that a good attitude is a necessary life skill.
