"And why should anyone HAVE to work more than 50 hours per week just to survive?" You do what you have to do. It is easy to pontificate about how they should have moved somewhere else. But it is a lot easier now to find a job in another state or find a better job market in general. That wasn't all that easy back then. My father did check in other job markets, and in fact got a job offer from Honeywell in Florida to make gyroscopes. After he got there for the interview, he found out there were regular layoffs and the market for a watchmaker was no better there than it was in Beaumont. During the Domino's year, I was clocking about 80 hours a week, being the slacker I was. I had a family to feed, making minimum wage and the job market was a total disaster. The tech section in the Chronicle was down to less than a page. There just weren't jobs to be had. Shorty is just a pinhead. He seems to think that the whole country is just like his little corner of Maryland. And that everyone dodged the draft during Vietnam.
