Arlen Specter Wants Bush's Illegal Wiretapping Program Ended nytimes.com Can we all finally admit that the White House lied to us about their warrantless wiretapping program being a "vital weapon against terror". This enormous power which Bush gave to himself without anyone's permission despite the FISA laws and the Constitution prohibiting it is extremely easy to abuse in a big step toward tyranny. In fact, Bush stealing this power may be the #1 reason to impeach him. Frankly, we have no idea if these powers are being used against terrorism, or against various opponents inside the US. We have certainly not seen a single case where any terrorists have been arrested because of these powers. And FISA courts are willing to bend over backwards to give Bushies super-quick warrants whenever needed. So there's really no reaon for this in the first place.
