Re: Most likely scenario is that locals have guns and visiting tourists from Israel do not

Locals have guns?!? LOL... This is NOT the Disneyesque Gulag (aka the US) --this is douce France! At best, PSG skinheads could equip themselves with clubs, knives, baseball bats and pepper sprays, but then, since all the spectators who enter the stadium are bodily searched, it's impossible for them to attend the game and use their (confiscated) weapons afterwards.... Of course, they could also wait outside the stadium, watching the game on TV in nearby cafés. But still, as a rule, soccer hooligans don't carry firearms --theirs is a culture of fistfighting and kicking, of slugging it out with the opponent team's supporters and riot police (French CRS).

Contrariwise, it perfectly fits the Israeli mindset to provide Hapoel Tel Aviv supporters with their own, clandestine, security detail. Israelis were well aware of PSG's infamous reputation of having one of the most violent, far-right fanclub. Add to that Israelis' distrust of French authorities when it comes to protecting the poor, innocent, vulnerable Jews and it doesn't take a Sherlock Holmes to suss it out: there were armed Israeli security agents waiting outside the stadium, most likely backed up by French Jews from Judeofascist militias (Betar, LDJ). I guess their strategy, somehow, was to turn it all into a corrida of sorts: in order to protect Israeli spectators leaving the stadium for their coaches, they provoked PSG skinheads to lure them away from the Israelis and... well, the rest is history.
