The corner cabinet where our TV is will only handle a 27".

Beware. A wide screen is larger, but not as much as you think. We replaced a 23" tv with a 30" wide screen tv. The screen size for 4:3 format broadcasts is almost identical. Thus in order to replace you 27" with the same size you will probably need a 40". (It may be slightly larger for 4:3 format shows.)
