I kind of like not having messy old Gods around.

Me, too. Though having said that I must quickly add that one of my most interesting readings as an undergraduate at the University of Texas were a couple of courses in Greek tragedy. Which we, of course, read from the viewpoint of demythologizing via existentialist theology. Very exciting. And most interesting gods.
