"some irresponsible judge" Ann, I think that's why we allow people to appeal decisions they think are wrong. A LOT of people are on life support in this country. We could probably keep MANY of them "alive" (heart beating and breathing) indefinitely if we wanted to. That's why we use "brain function" as the criteria for death. I've told my Wife that if I ever get into the situation that MS. Schiavo was in and a "vast preponderance of the evidence" says that I'm no longer mentally alive, regardless of how animate I may appear, I would depend on her to let my body go where my mind had already gone.
