You're just conned, BY the truly rich and their political minions, into fearing that the tax burden will fall on you. Ben Stein is one of YOURS, a Republican (much wealthier than YOU), who's just speaking the truth. Wake up pal - things DO have to be paid for, and there is no free lunch as promised by the supply-siders. There never was. It didn't happen for Reagan, and it hasn't happened for Bush.

Do you think Warren Buffet would consider you "rich"? I don't. You must not have read far enough into the article where Warren admits that he doesn't do ANY tax planning, shelters, etc. He just pays what he owes. Since most of his income comes from capital gains, and his FICA ends at 90k (only on his SALARY), he just naturally pays much LESS than ordinary Americans as a percentage of his actual income. And he doesn't think that's FAIR.

Rightwing pundits lie about taxation of the rich all the time. I was listening to Hannity a few weeks ago lie to his audience that Democrats consider $60,000 per year "rich" and will raise your taxes. This kind of blatant lie is typical.

What Hannity is really doing is trying to protect the idle rich people making a million a year or more who are the real targets, and who have been getting the biggest breaks. Democrats usually define "rich" as over $200,000 per year, but also offer greater write-offs for families with kids and tuitions. Dems will also fight to lower energy, health care and education costs.

When I was growing up, conservative and patriotic Americans considred it their solemn duty to contribute through taxes to our society. In fact during WWII people bought war bonds and gave even more. These days the rightwing has rallied against taxation of any kind, and now you see the results. Way out of control deficit spending and the dollar dropping 50% since 2000.

JCP, that's sad, how Ben Stein is now joining the millions of "fiscally conservative Democrats" who think spending can't be cut because of entitlements, and who think taxes have to be raised on the "rich."

Ben Stein is not the first conservative to take such a position recently. When people like he and other conservatives as well as wealthy democrats make statements like he did in that article, it would behoove you to pay attention. America's finances are truly messed up and Bush has messed them up much more than any other president in the last 50 years. If America goes belly up, you're going to be wishing you could have paid more taxes.
