JCP, > I don't see any reason Buffet would LIE about it, as you accuse him of doing.

I think he exaggerates. His point is that he doesn't have to try very hard to take advantage of tax shelters available to him.

My point is that when I get to his level of wealth, I too wouldn't have to worry about how much I pay in taxes. But I'm not there, and I probably never will be. Instead, I gotta work my butt off to get a raise, only to see 40% of that raise go to the federal government. Those are the marginal tax rates that many on Buffet's side are in favor of raising.

Like I said, how about we first get rid of the tax shelters that rich guys like Buffet take advantage of without even raising a finger? How about we also reform Social Security and not make that a regressive tax? How about we also try what Elroy suggested and cut a percentage of employees across all federal agencies?

And finally, how about we change the system so that social spending actually functions as a safety net and not as a system of entitlements? We could get out of Iraq tomorrow, yet we'd still have a government that Ben Stein correctly pointed out has spending increases locked in every other area besides the military.
