Sorry, Shorty....the tide is turning. Look at the margin of victory for the democratic senatorial candidates in your "republican" bastions. Remember, if the old republicans came back, those areas would too. It is the new republicans...spending fools, social engineers, foreign interventionists..that people don't recognize, or like.

No need to 'tell 'em' anything.

(But... of course I was using the geographic descriptors like 'Western' very loosely... mostly population-weighted.)

Still... with Arizona/Nevada being wellsprings for what was called 'Western Conservatism' (Goldwater's Libertarian influenced traditional "tell the government to leave me alone" Conservatism), and with the success over the years in California politics of "Western Republicans" such as Reagan and now 'Arhnold', :-), there is little doubt that the Big Government Social Conservative political style that has rooted itself in the South is finding more difficulties growing roots in areas where 'Conservative' means hewing closer to the Goldwater style....
