Re:

"I'm sure we will get around to killing plenty over resources before the century is over....but the theme I've been trying to pound on today....is mix in radical fundamentalism, proven track records of trying until results are achieved, increasing spread of available technology, not to mention the possibility of almost unlimited funding and who is to say the day that 10 or more dirty bombs(or worse) don't explode on a given day? My wager would be even money that it will happen within our life time."

All possible. (One of the many excellent reasons for also trying to keep the 'nuclear genie' in the bottle --- spending the couple of million necessary to mop up the 'lose' ex-Soviet nuclear material, etc.)

That is certainly not the *only* action required... but I believe it's a prudent one.

Now... as to your expectation of '10 or more dirty bombs exploding in our land within our lifetimes', I can only add that I sure as Hell hope not... but I'd ALSO like to point you to the vastly EVEN WORSE nuclear catastrophes we have narrowly escaped *already* within the lifetimes of many of our citizens (including me...) 'Total' annihilation from Soviet strikes was but *narrowly* averted MORE THEN ONCE.

So, there is always hope, Don.
