"It is my belief that the overpoliticizing of this war has led to conditions that led to Abu Ghraib and other abuses"

How so? The abuses started soon after the start of the war. The first public rumblings were in early 2002, which means that it had to've started earlier than that.

It is my belief that the overpoliticizing of this war has led to conditions that led to Abu Ghraib and other abuses, because a demand for results substitutes for an actual discussion of real solutions, which of course is pushed aside with the politicization.

Two things came together to make abu Ghraib happen........Bush/Rumsfeld approved a policy that allowed torture, and some sick people who were drawn to performing such torture. The same thing happened in Afghanistan. That's right.........a lack of respect for human life spawned more evil. That's been the case with this White House since they took over.

And btw, tonite, Bush said that the people in Iraq are not fighters in a civil war; instead, people who kill other people are criminals. Of course, that does not include American soldiers killing people. This kind of circular, in denial thinking is the hallmark of this administration. So you might want to stop overthinking abu Ghraib and instead, deal with the truth.
