Well you didn't read deep enough into the thread. If they separate it could put them at a disadvantage trading. At that point they would either want to rejoin Canada, but if Canada won't take them back because they are a major PITA, they might have to turn to the US.

Not sure how Canada and Mexico and the US would factor Quebec into the NAFTA agreement.
