"Could be... US folks are not going to react kindly to that, justified or not."

Nope. But there may be few choices. A widening circle of chaos in the ME would result in several problems. An abrupt cut off of a large chunk of oil supplies would, well, put the world in a world of hurt. Not only that, there would be an increased stream of refugees heading for Europe and other places. Now China has a big enough army to seal their borders, Europe does not. Given that many of those countries are having second, third and even fourth thoughts about their Muslim population, multiplying them several times is not going to make them happy. And they will know exactly who to blame. Add in that the Saudi government would be one of the first to go, don't you think bin Laden will be pleased? Under the circumstances, he likely would have a lot of influence after that happens.

So, even with out a huge spike in oil prices, the refugee crisis and handing Saudi Arabia over the al Qaeda would be enough for a lynching.
