stop fighting a guerilla war the "redcoat" way (i.e. stop having our troops out there like open targets), start relying on subterfuge, and make the local tribalism work for us instead of against us.

What does this mean to our tactics, number of troops, type of engagement, etc...? Can you be more specific?

So does it make sense to raise taxes on those who don't pay taxes in order to get them to vote for tax cuts?

See, it's not the same...you just don't get it.

Here is a case where we have opened up a can of worms and don't know what to do about it. There are really only three options.

1) keep doing what we are now...this is no good at all as the situation degrades daily and we can't control anything, including the lives of soldiers lost
2) walk away and let the chips fall where they may
2) really put your foot down and control the violence by force, until the iraqis can do it for themselves, which will likely take many years and lots more soldiers on the ground

A draft would be 1)a deterrent preventing us from opening up such cans of worms, and 2) even if opened, it would have give us a much better chance of dealing with the consequences.

Now we tell each other that option 1& 2 aren't any good, and option 3, we just don't have the resources.
