I don't get it. I seem to agree with almost everything you and most threadsters say regarding limiting the power of the feds, and I think equalization payments are damaging to the economy and welfare of the country, especially to that of the recipients.

But I don't see why you are railing on Harper as if his actions to date are not in line with your beliefs. He broke one election promise, and frankly, I buy the argument that he had no choice but to equalize the treatment of corporations and trusts. (I am disappointed he didn't instead allow corporations to issue dividends before tax). Maybe there are things you would like to see him do, but really, do you have justification to be upset that he didn't yet do everything you want? So he didn't interfere in a native protest in Caledonia (I don't know why). He didn't engage in corporate welfare to save your shipyard (he wouldn't, out of principle).

On the other hand, he has already fulfilled a lot of his promises, and will fulfill the rest when or if he gets a majority. You seem to forget that he is not governing the country; a divided parliament is. He is the flag bearer for a house that mostly doesn't support him.

He has shown far more political skill than I expected, and less adherence to "conservative" ideology than I expected. He is a policy hack, and like Preston manning, I expected him to act like a geek, with timid proposals to improve the economic environment. I don't like all his policies, but I have been pleasantly surprised overall. Give him a chance to mature as a politician and to get a majority, then judge him.

FWIW, I'm a libertarian centrist and would belong to the Libertarians if they ever got their heads out of the sand.
