Senator Cantwell of Washington State has twice sponsored bills on extensive port security. Couldn't get them out of Committee. Senator Ted Stevens of Alaska (a sad example of a high-spending, personal fiefdom, meglomaniac) opposes everything in this area.

since the Democrat leftists do not believe that anyone has WMD , what is the purpose of beefing port security?

IMO, 100 % search parameters would effectively stop global trade.
