Nokia has admitted publically that QCOM has essential IPR required for CDMA, W-CDMA, GPRS and EDGE. QCOM also made it clear in their most recent earnings call that in the event Nokia doesn't renew by April 2007, the lawyers have already prepared legal documents seeking to enjoin Nokia from selling any CDMA, W-CDMA, GPRS or EDGE handsets in the US, Canada, UK, Italy, France and Germany. What operator would order handsets from Nokia knowing that there is a chance those handsets could be taken off the shelves.

I was under the impression that Nokia's strategy was to go on selling all types of phones without paying any royalties to Q at all.

How is this different than what Qualcomm is going to do? They have already stated that they are going to continue shipping WCDMA chipsets after April and you can be sure that those chips will be violating Nokia's GSM and WCDMA IPR.

One interesting thing to watch....I wonder if Q will accrue a possible royalty to Nokia once the agreement ends.
