I'm all for bribery as long as the bribe monies go to decent people --- it usually doesn't --- and is more cost effective than war.

In the case of Iraq, we could have paid the entire GDP of that country for 10-15 years for the price of this war. The Baathists without Saddam could have kept the government in place and we'd be settling things in court and reconciliation hearings in place of this military fiasco.

There would be a whole lot less rebuilding plus a dang sight less privateering going on...which, of course, is the entire point of Republican Iraq.
