Law Society Tribunal Decisions

TORONTO, June 26 /CNW/ - The Law Society regulates the legal profession in the public interest.

As part of this mandate, the Law Society's Hearing and Appeal Panels recently heard the following case. Hearing and Appeal Panels are composed of Law Society benchers - lawyers and lay people who are responsible for determining the appropriate disposition of cases.

Cameila Anderson (1985, 48), of the City of Windsor, was found guilty of professional misconduct for: borrowing a total of $56,000.00, more or less, from 3 clients; failing to satisfy or comply with 2 Default Judgments requiring her to pay to 2 clients $30,150.56 plus costs and to a company the sum of $26,672.87 plus costs; practising law while under administrative suspension during 3 different time periods; failing to satisfy or comply with a court Judgment, requiring her to pay a total of $907.24 to 2 clients; failing to fulfill 2 financial obligations, incurred in the course of her practice; failing to serve 7 clients in a conscientious, diligent and efficient manner; misleading 2 clients, a fellow solicitor and the Law Society; failing to fulfill an Undertaking given to the purchasers and their solicitors in a real estate transaction; failing to respond or to respond promptly to communications from 2 fellow solicitors; failing to cooperate in a Law Society investigation.

By Decision and Order dated May 31, 2006, the Hearing Panel ordered that:

the Member is granted permission to resign her membership with the Law Society within 30 days of the date of the order, or be subject to disbarment thereafter.
