Agreed - most threads I read and post on are not stock specific, but they talk about a lot of different stocks. There is no way to include a rating system for all the energy stocks or all the housing stocks or all the value stocks and attach it to those threads. A separate rating area makes a lot of sense with links to all the threads as a reminder.

I don't think we'll ever want to associate names with votes for public view.

However, you do point out something I'm going to have to give a lot of thought to. That I may be dealing with two separate desires I thought would go hand in hand but perhaps don't necessarily need to.

I tied voting in with posting because as much as I want statistically significant voting, the site's biggest need of all is increased market-related posting, and stock-specific boards are relatively easy to target. I thought SIS would be a posting motivator. Even if the post associated with the vote were "I'm rating XYZ a 6 today because it's nearing, but not quite at an important support level."

I'll give it a lot more thought and continue to read to get the much-needed input.

I notice you guys have worked through one of the other challenges we face. That it's difficult to have quantity and quality at the same time. But it's do-able.

Edit: Further explanation on the SIS/Posting tie-in. The intention has always been to use SIS in press releases, which would get associated (at Yahoo Finance and possibly other places) with news for any of the mentioned tickers, so if INTC is rated an 8.3 by the community this week, up from 7.5 last week, that's relevant, and will get people interested in checking it out here and adding their own opinions and votes.
