Here's what I've learned - for 90 years, the US public school system has had one main goal - to train children to stand in line, wait, do what the govt. asks and ask no questions. There was, however, a period from about 1958 to 1962, when math and science were promoted heavily in the school system because the US lagged behind the USSR in the space program. Math is FUN, and yet teachers don't teach it that way. And they encourage girls to hate it. So dumb, because girls are innately MUCH better and more intuitive in math.

Oh, yeah, schools today are worse indeed than in years past. In high school, foreign language was not an elective, neither was math. I read that Ben Franklin's sporadic formal education ended at age 13. I bet the bright child he must have been would be forced to take Ritalin these days, so he would stop thinking and asking questions. This current system of drugging children is a science fiction horror story I once read come to pass.
