How is it possible federal spending has gone up ONLY 49% since 2001? Bush has burned through the surplus, and at this point, the misbegotten war has cost us half a trillion - which could have fed a lot of hungry people in the US and sent them all to private schools, and could have gone to protecting our borders and to pay for better security right here.
